CORPORATE PROFILE:
Scientific Timesharing Systems, (or
STS in short), was founded in the year 1982 when it was incorporated
as a Privately Held Limited Company and Registered with the
Registrar of Companies, Govt. of India, Calcutta. The company has
been converted as a Publicly Held company in July 2003. The
company’s Head office is at: Gorky Sadan, (the Russian consulate
Education and Cultural wing at Calcutta and is a renowned building
at Calcutta). STS has
been founded by Mr. Santosh Bose, a resident of USA, with the
objective of introducing modern technologies in India, from around
the world.
However, we have been operating since 1978 when we secured a
contract for modification of IBM 370/158 system of ONGC, Dehradun.
We had successfully performed this first contract on time. Our
second contract, before incorporation, was Supply of Parts for
repair of IBM 1401 second generation computer system to Computer
Maintenance Corporation, which took over maintenance of IBM
computers in India when IBM left India in 1977. This was a difficult
task, as IBM 1401 computers were out of production for long time and
spare parts were not available off-the-shelf in market. We had taken
great pains to find out the parts from the northern parts of Canada
and supplied to CMC on time, even before they could open the Letter
of Credit.
STS was operating
as a local in-country associate of our US associate company National
Systems Technologies, Inc, which was also founded by Mr. Santosh
Bose, in New York. The company’s biggest achievement has been the
successful promotion from concept development, project report
writing, marketing and implementation of Heavy Haul Freight Train
Operation to Indian Railways. The company established that it had
the ability to take upon a challenging task and perform the task by
overcoming all obstacles. A new radio frequency had to be developed
as the US radio were not functioning in the R/F chosen by India. The
equipment, Locotrol was supplied by Harris Corp., since taken over
by GE Transportation, and training in heavy haul was provided by an
engineer from Australia which country is a pioneer in Heavy Haul
Operation.
